Breakout Bites of the Week Ending August 3

And just like that…it is August. Time flies.

I’m especially looking forward to this month because I have lots of fun things planned. To start, I am going to a free summer movie series on the Intrepid (an aircraft carrier museum) where they are playing none other than Jurassic Park. What is better than lying on a flight deck and watching dinosaurs? You will be hard pressed to come up with something…I know it!

Before we get into this week’s Breakout Bites there is a few housekeeping notes to share.

    1. You now have an opportunity to get more healthy bites in your inbox! Sign-up for BSW’s monthly newsletter via the subscribe box in the upper right corner? Exclusive, fun and healthy tips to come.
    2. Did you check out BSW’s NEW foodie challenge? #PairYourEats is a chance to grow your food knowledge and become a more well-rounded foodie. It is a simple food pairing game with a blog link-up once a month. Would love for you all to get involved and spread the news! The more people that participate, the more kitchen inspiration we can share.
    3. Bite Size Wellness was honored by Jacksonville University as one of the Top Sites for Healthcare. Overly thrilled that the healthy living community is enjoying bite size tips on head-to-toe health. Thank you for your support!

How to Climb Mount Everest| Run to the Finish

If your mind ain’t in the game…then you are going nowhere. I love Amanda’s life message about “climbing Mount Everest” in our day-to-day challenges and obstacles. When climbing Mount Everest you don’t just walk up to the summit. You go up, back down and up a little higher until you finally reach the summit three months later. In other words, Amanda reminded us that nothing is a straight shot to the finish line. It takes effort, determination and “weathering the storm” before you get there. I love this point: “The summit is just one point in the journey and you need to embrace all of it to reach the summit.” Cheers Amanda!

Lemon-Mint Lentil Salad| The Fitnessista

What is it with serving food in a “dish” that isn’t a plate that makes eating so much more fun? The lovely Gina made a lemon-mint lentil salad that would be fabulous served in a regular old bowl, but she made her dish so much more appetizing by serving it in a hollowed out red pepper. Mutli-purpose food. Love it. Thanks for the recipe Gina.

5 Great Thigh Toning Exercises| Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

First off, who doesn’t get a kick out of this blog name? Christie recently had surgery and her leg muscles have been whittling away from the lack of activity. She calls it Bambi-syndrome. So in wanting to gain her strength back Christie shared 5 helpful thigh exercises (no machinery required!) that I just love. Having strong leg and core muscles make us all better athletes. Feel the burn.

Why You Need to Start Planning Your Meals| Crazy Running Girl

When it comes to healthy eating, a little bit of type-A personality can do wonders. Lora from Crazy Running Girl shared a post of the Fitfluential blog about why meal planning has perks…and I couldn’t agree more. I adopted a menu board a couple years back and I love it because it relieves the pressure of the “what’s for dinner?” question and it is also amazing for getting creative with your meals (ie wipe the dust off of those cooking mags) and healthy noshing. My favorite thing about meal planning is cooking a little extra so that you have leftovers for lunch. Then you don’t have to think about that meal either. Win-win-win. Thanks for the reminders!

Change| Best Body Fitness

We are creatures of habit. We easily fall into routines. We can get comfortable where we are. Many of us fear the thought of CHANGE. Tina shared a personal anecdote on how embracing change (and steering off the life plan path) can be uncomfortable but bring some of the most precious parts of life to light. Tina fell in love, had children, believes in herself and has a different career all because she let change happen. Just over a year ago my husband and I made a life decision to move from Colorado to NYC. I already feel like a stronger, better person because of this experience. As Tina said: “While change is scary, it is many times worth it.” Have you embraced change?

Happy Friday everyone! Don’t forget to start brainstorming for #PairYourEats!

What posts this week did you love? What are you doing this weekend?

    • Best thing I ever did was buy a mini white board to put on my fridge. I actually ENJOY pulling out the menu binder for an hour and getting it out of the way in one go 🙂
