3 Reasons You Should Know CPR

Can you imagine being pronounced dead and then coming back to life? Well Colin Fiedler can. He is the Australian gentlemen you may now know as the man that was dead for 40 minutes before being brought back to life—straight out of a movie scene kind of stuff.

What’s crazy is that Fiedler isn’t the only miracle man. He is one of 3 people that have been pronounced clinically dead before being revived by the AutoPulse, a new cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedure.

According to the Herald Sun, “The AutoPulse is a support pump that moves more blood throughout the body than manual compressions, minimizing ‘no-flow’ time and squeezing the entire chest as opposed to regular CPR, which only affects one area.”

We are sure you aren’t planning for a Grey’s Anatomy moment in your future, but you never know when you will need to find your inner Meredith Grey. Here are 3 reasons why we think getting your CPR certification this summer is a good idea:

1. Feel Empowered

When you know CPR you have a certain amount of confidence about having knowledge in your back pocket, just in case. If the worst were to happen you would know the appropriate steps to take that could save a life without panicking. It is those first few seconds that can make a difference.

2. Build Skillsets

If you are not in a position that requires you to be CPR certified you likely haven’t thought it was beneficial to add these skills to your repertoire. Learning CPR is a valuable skill to have no matter what your career choice is. When it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, being armed with new information that can benefit the health of yourself or others is a major plus in our book.

3. Save Lives

The most obvious and greatest advantage of learning CPR is the ability to save the lives of others. Imagine you are running on a relatively remote trail and can save a fellow jogger from your skillset. According to the American Red Cross, over 50,000 deaths could be prevented every year if more people were CPR certified.

Are you CPR certified? Have you ever considered taking the lifesaving course?
