This Not That: Salon Hair Color

Hair Coloring

Coloring your hair is a great way to change your look. Although you could do it yourself, it’s best that you go to a professional. Some of the negative side effects of home hair color gone wrong include hair loss, dry brittle hair, and not achieving the desired look. There are some things like hair texture, hair porosity, and the level of  hair damage that a professional can take into account that you cannot. Since we’re talking about permanent hair color, you will have to live with any mistakes you make, you may as well just treat yourself to a trip to the salon in the first place.

Now that you’ve scheduled our appointment, it’s important to know what we want, and what kinds of products the salons use. In order to explain to your hair stylist exactly what you want, you should bring a picture as a point of reference. Once you have shown your stylist the picture, you can discuss whether this color will work with your skin tone and lifestyle. It’s very important that you tell your hair stylist if you have any done any previous chemical processing  to your hair including, coloring, perming, or relaxing. The second most important thing to know is what kind of hair color your stylist uses. There are dozens of different hair color systems, but two of the best are Framesi FRAMCOLOR Glamour and Aveda Full Spectrum permanent color.

  1. I MUST go to a salon – I have done my hair myself (or my mother has) far too many times and it just never really comes out right. I will spend money on a good hair stylist! Even then, it’s always a struggle trying to find the right colorists/stylist for you! LUCKILY I think I have found the one I will be sticking with for awhile! 🙂

  2. When I was younger I used box dyes all the time. I dyed my hair from orange to black to red and back (never on purpose). In college, I went platinum and then did highlights for years. It took a long time but I’ve finally realized what looks best…au natural baby!!!
