Since winter has long overstayed its welcome this year, it is safe to say that everyone is looking for spring to get here quickly. If you’re a fitness enthusiast looking for some new gear, you’ll be delighted by Lucy Activewear’s spring offerings to get you in the mood. The brand (noted for its bright orange signs and great seasonal sales) has released a line of colorful and functional pieces that are sure to be a pleasant addition to any athletes’ collection, whether you’re an amateur or an Olympian. The company sent me its Zen Seeker Tunic top in addition to the Perfect Core leggings to review.

lucy activewear spring topThe Zen Seeker Tunic ($59) is a lightweight tank that really would be ideal for almost any workout. It doesn’t include a bra, but you can easily add your own that can be cheekily seen through its flattering keyhole in the back. The scoop neck is just deep enough to cover a low-cut sports bra (a feature that I love) and gives the tank a sexy touch. To give the top some shape, it’s gathered right around the bust—to emphasize all the “key” assets—and flows out at the bottom.

This top is not only fashion-forward, but is also functional. Its lightweight jersey knit—made up of 91 percent supplex nylon and nine percent lycra spandex—is stretchy, light and has a nice, almost silk-like feel to it.  This makes it ideal for leisurely walks to intense, sweat-soaked runs, and everything in between.  It includes a hem drawstring so it will stay put if you’re in an inversion during yoga class or stay open and breathe during a sweaty workout. The top is cut so it leaves your shoulders mostly free and ready for action.

If you’re looking for a versatile, sexy all-purpose top, this is it. I don’t usually go for tops without a built-in bra, but this one is worth every penny. Plus, it comes in a variety of cute, bright colors (or just black if you prefer to keep it simple) that will remind you of warmer weather.

Next up, we’ve got the Perfect Core leggings ($98). As an athletic-clothing lover, I know that there is no such thing as too many stretchy pants, and these are practically the holy grail of leggings.

For starters, the capris contain these figure-flattering panels that not only slim and shape the thighs and tummy but will give you that coveted, lifted yoga butt – no need to have Kim Kardashian’s genes to make it happen.

The material is nice too. It’s thick and durable, but light and perfect for spring’s transitional weather. The fact that these hit around mid-calf, make them ideal for the season’s fluctuating temps. After a handful of walks and a Pilates class, I can verify that these pants are also great at wicking away sweat. Another plus: The leggings provide plenty of compression for those high-impact activities.

As anyone who follows the news knows, since lululemon’s “pants-gate,” it’s imperative to do a bend test before buying a new pair of capris. I’m sad to report just a touch of sheerness. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about, but you’ll probably want to wear dark underwear when you put these on as you can see a very faint outline, especially if you are wearing brighter colored panties. Still, it’s a small price to pay for these fantastic capris. I’m sure these will become to my go-to leggings once the warm weather finally arrives.
