Mind Makeover: 4 Tips to Get Outside of your Comfort Zone

4 Tips to Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone

We makeover our face and our hair. We overhaul our wardrobe and our jobs. You can say we are obsessed with makeovers, and yet we rarely do an internal makeover.

After years of the same ‘ol same ‘ol our minds are dusty, frayed, stained and tired. Needless to say our minds are in desperate need of a little redecorating or we become comfortably stuck. And what is the fun in that?

Realize your full potential by stepping outside of your comfort zone where you can find mental freedom and maybe discover a thing or two about yourself.

1. Face your fears…one step at a time.

Often times what holds us back is fear. Identify what your fear is and then take small steps so you can gradually become more comfortable. If you have a fear of public speaking, you don’t have to go up on stage and talk. Instead you can take small steps like talking to someone new at work, and then move on from there. Eventually you will start to gain a mental boost of confidence that will reduce your self-reservations.

2. Try something new and weird.

One of the best ways to have a mental growth spurt is by doing something that is not uniquely you. Choosing to do an activity that isn’t in line with your personality will push you out of your comfort zone quickly. Do something that is out of character for you or that you wouldn’t say is of interest to you right now. You may surprise yourself in what you discover.

3. Take a friend with you.

When you aren’t flying solo, it is easier to take the mental free fall because you have someone you trust by your side. Want to try a new workout class but afraid of making a fool of yourself? Bring your BFF along so you can laugh about the experience lady, but at least you can say you did it. Of course, having a sidekick can hold you back too. You won’t need to search for that internal bravery you would have to find if you were to go at something alone. So remember that even if you are going to be with a friend, your mental makeover needs to be focused on you.

4. Push your boundaries by not making any goals.

It sounds counter-intuitive, but you can really push your mental boundaries when you don’t have any goals or targets in mind. When you set fewer boundaries there is no limit to the amount of achievements you can accomplish. So, be your best self and push your boundaries but not making any.

  1. I like the doing the things that scare you tip. A lot of time if I am claiming I don’t want to do something I realize I don’t want to because I’m scared…

  2. I need to step out of my comfort zone far more. I am happy to report that I have been stepping outside of my boundaries far more since moving to Los Angeles but, common, everyone wants to be comfortable! ha ha. It does really help to have a friend or two come with you though, however, I tend to be my own leader.
