Dinner & A Movie: Recipes Inspired by Anchorman

Anchorman 2 Cast

Anchorman 2 is one of the movies anchoring (a pun!) the holiday movie season. The film’s slated for release on December 18th and will feature a rockstar cast. Actors include most of the cast from the first Anchorman, including the always relevant Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, Vince Vaughn, and Luke Wilson. We’re pretty excited for some more Ron Burgundy shenanigans. Are you? The sequel is apparently set in New York, where the former Channel 4 news team joins a 24-hour news channel.

In celebration of the upcoming sequel, I was inspired to list some recipes native to San Diego and New York. Here are some tastes that might have Ron Burgundy yelling “Great odin’s raven, this is delicious!”:

1. Carne Asada Fries (via Nile Guide)

This greasy fatty and delicious San Diego specialty can now be found all over the American Southwest. The dish consists of french fries, carne asada (grilled meat), guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. This heavy dish is pretty high in calories so don’t make it too often! The variety of cheese used varies but many restaurants opt for Cotija, a Mexican cheese. You can find a pretty good recipe on damndelicious.

2. California Burrito (via WikiHow)

This burrito is a fusion food arising out of the mixing of Spanish and other cultures. The popular California recipe originated in Ron Burgundy’s San Diego. It typically contains chunks of carne asada meat, french fries, cheese, cilantro, pico de gallo, sour cream, onion and guacamole (although usually not all those ingredients at once).

3. Manhattan Clam Chowder (via Serious Eats)

Though this dish didn’t originate in Manhattan, it’s become a popular New York staple. Manhattan clam chowder is differentiated from New England clam chowder by a clear broth mixed with tomatoes. Check out this comprehensive recipe from food network.

4. Waldorf Salad (via Simple Daily Recipes)

For our last recipe, let’s get a little more health-conscious! This salad is typically made from walnuts, apples, celery, and lettuce. It was probably first created (and definitely named) in 1893 and 1896 at the Waldorf Hotel in New York City. Other ingredients, such as chicken, turkey, grapes, and dried fruit are sometimes added. Find the best combination for your tastes!

Will you be seeing Anchorman 2?
