Daily Bite Wellness Tip Cauliflower Carb Replacer

Carbs are not the enemy! Oftentimes, people think that rice, potatoes, and anything starchy will contribute to weight gain. This is false. Not being able to handle your portion sizes and practice moderation will lead to weight gain. That being said, sometimes you have gotten your fill of said carbs in a day and are looking for a healthy dinner side alternative. Maybe you just don’t want to feel weighed down? Look no further than the magical cauliflower.

While one look at this vegetable might lead you to believe that it is broccoli’s albino and long lost cousin, cauliflower is so much more than just that. It is low in calories, contains B vitamins, vitamin C, antioxidants, and has been known as an anti-inflammatory. To top it all off, the cauliflower is incredibly versatile and can be thrown into many recipes, including those that are typically known as being starchier or heavier on the stomach.

These common recipes range anywhere from mashed potatoes,  to rice, and even bread.

  1. Instead of potatoes, take a big head of cauliflower, steam it, mash it up, add a dab of Earth Balance vegan butter, and there you go! Season as you like for all the flavor without all the calories.
  2. To make rice, all you need to do is give it a few twirls in a food processor. Sautee it to warm it up if you like.
  3. Bread? Pizza Crust? Rice your cauliflower and add into your desired recipe instead of flour.

It is truly as easy as that! Cauliflower can lighten any meal up. However, not only can it be used as merely a replacement but can be the center of any party spread. Buffalo cauliflower bites, a veggie for dipping, or even soup.
