Do you stay on top of scheduling your general medical check-ups? A new study says that spending money on preventative general appointments may not be as valuable as we think.

According to the recently published study done by Cochrane Collaboration, a UK-based nonprofit that conducts reviews to help providers and patients make healthcare decisions, general health physicals don’t affect rates of death or disease. It states that if you are a healthy individual to skip the general exam and spend your time, energy and money in services and screenings that are more focused. For example, for a healthy person, time in a doctor’s office can be spent more effectively when talking about curbing smoking rather than setting up an appointment for another “preventative” test. If you don’t have any symptoms, skip the medical hoopla.

If there is one thing that “wasting” time in your physician’s office does, it is to lessen worry. Spending a short amount of one-on-one time with your general medical professional provides relief that nothing is wrong and gives an opportunity to talk about recommendations for moving forward.

Personally we think that our bodies are well oiled machines that need an exam from time to time just like our cars would.
