Breakout Bites of the Week Ending July 13

Another week means another round-up of Breakout Bites.

I am reminded once again how amazing and well-rounded this healthy living community is. This week there were so many amazing posts from fitness and food to having a healthy mind and knowing your body…it was hard to choose!

By the way, Bite Size Wellness got around this week too. Check out my guest post on Ashley’s blog Coffee, Cake and Cardio. It is all about leaving a healthy lifestyle after you say “I do” but lots of the tips can work for any relationship from friends to family. Please read!

Without further ado, here are this week’s Breakout Bites:

Negative Thoughts are Wasted Space | The Lean Green Bean

Lindsay shared a truly incredible post about being your own worst critic and replacing useless, negative thoughts with positive ones.  She shares her 3 question process that she now strives to go through when dealing with a negative thought rather than letting the thoughts dictate her mood: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it helpful? What I love most about this post is that often we think of health from a completely physical perspective but healthy living is from the inside out and includes having a healthy mind too. She really nailed this one:  “Stop picking yourself apart. Stop focusing on your flaws. Start finding things that make you proud. Start embracing who you are NOW.”

My Workout on a Football Field | The More I Run

Talk about a great place to exercise when school is out—Samantha made her very own gym out of the football stadium at a local school. Definitely approve of her inventive exercise arena and getting a major sweat on in nearly every area of the stadium from bleachers to grass. Even more, I love that Samantha was oozing with proudness when she completed her very own football stadium cycle. “Years ago I thought about doing it.  Wished I could do it.  Watched as other people did it. But today.  I DID IT.  And I did it well.” You go girl!

No-Bake Strawberry Lemonade Bites | Iowa Girl Eats

No round-up is complete without a recipe! Kristin had me reminiscing on my summers as a child with her no-bake strawberry lemonade bites. Nothing says summer more than fresh fruit and a glass of lemonade, agree? All I have to say is any lemonade stand that sold these accompanied by darling little smiles from the neighborhood children would be a winning combination. Thanks for the fabulous summer recipe!

The New Plan That’s Not Really a Plan | Clean Eating Chelsey

Chelsey is the queen of listening to her body—a skill I would love to say I have mastered, but unfortunately needs some work. Not long ago Chelsey took a step back from her intense fitness routine for a more slow-paced approach and it did wonders on her body and her psyche. She learned a lot about being comfortable in her own skin and said “I’ve spent the last few months letting my body get back into a normal rhythm and allowing it to trust me again.” We should all aspire to a health plan that is customized to what your OWN body needs and not get so wrapped up in what the magazines and such say. Chelsey, you rock my world.

30 Minute Thursday: Yoga is my Strength | Cotter Crunch

I was a late bloomer when it came to trying yoga and to this day I don’t really know why. I was a lot like Lindsay who thought of yoga as a “rest day” for stretch and recover since it was by no means a workout. (I don’t know what I was thinking). Then I landed in a yoga class with one of the best teachers I have ever known and it changed my perspective on yoga forever. I admire how Lindsay has gone through a similar mental change in what yoga does for her mind and her body. It reminds me that I need to get back to being a committed yogi because I want to feel that feeling of yoga being a release again, just as Lindsay has. Plus I love, love, love her suggested yoga and strength combo workout.

Happy weekend everyone!
