Breakout Bites of the Week Ending August 17

Hooray for Fridayyyy! Per usual there are lots of fabulous blog posts floating around. Here are a few Breakout Bites to gnaw on before the weekend officially gets started.

My 31 Life Lessons in 31 Years | Chivon John

Who doesn’t love a good list? I have not hit my 31st year, but any insights on life as I grow up are welcome in my book. I love everything that Chivon put on this list and find the entire post incredibly inspiring, heartfelt and raw. Some favorites: being superwoman is overrated, use a scale as a guide not a gospel and there is no one sized fit all plan to healthy living.  You should bookmark it, pin it, print it and share it.

Tomato and Ginger Salad | A Farmgirl’s Dabbles

I never would have thought to dress my tomatoes with minced ginger, but it is such a brilliant idea. The simple summer salad inspired by Brenda’s growing garden would be a PERFECT #PairYourEats recipe to highlight. And serve it in a clear bowl so that the presentation really pops!

4 Fitness Grammar Mistakes | Fun and Fit

Fitness isn’t all about sweating, muscles and treadmills. Sometimes it is about WORDS…especially for us bloggers. Even with my journalism background I still make plenty of spelling and grammar mistakes, but you better believe that I won’t be telling anyone that I want to “eat healthy” after this lesson on getting that body and mind to work together. Huge thanks to the twins for removing any potential embarrassment that could come from uttering a fitness grammar gaffe.

Going Deeper into a Pose? Or Going off the Deep End? | YogaDork

Ever have your yoga instructor tell you to “go deeper into a pose” and you immediately start plotting how you are going to finagle your body into stretching to the max? Instead of over-exerting your body or having your mind vacate the yoga mat in order to “get through a pose,” YogaDork gives us a new definition of “going deeper” into our awareness. I love this post because deepening your awareness is something you can practice off the mat too.

What I’ve Learned from Marathon Training | Fiterature

I have only run a half marathon in my life and I can relate to the hilarity of Megan’s lessons for training for a long race. Suddenly you can eat like you are Big Foot and your friends think you are Crazy (yes, with a capital C!) for missing out on happy hour to run. Oh, and sweat bands most definitely become cool again. This post is laugh out loud funny. So read it. Read it now.

Did you read any great health blog posts this week? What is your favorite day of the week?
