Oscar Party Menu Based on 2013’s Best Picture Nominees

Oscar Party Menu

For movie lovers the Oscars may beat out New Year’s Eve, but to a health nut it is just another reason to experiment in the kitchen Oscar style.

We rounded up 5 recipes based on 2013’s Best Picture nominees so you can nosh away to the food themes of your favorite flicks.

Sounds delightful, right? Here is what you should dig into on Sunday.

Beasts of the Southern Wild

This memorable movie is all about living in the Louisiana “Bathtub” and it only seems appropriate to create a dish inspired by the intrepid 6-year-old star Hushpuppy.

Try this healthy spin on the Louisiana classic from Food Network: baked hushpuppies.

Les Miserables

The lavish musical is full of starving people but there is no shortage of food scenes. Munch on a crusty loaf of bread while you relive the magical musical drama.

Here is how to make the iconic baguette from Saveur.

Silver Linings Playbook

Kick back with Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro with an homage to the Philly-centric film: the Philly cheesesteak. A football drama and an award winning tailgate classic…doesn’t get much better than this.

Eat your Philly cheesesteak sans bread with this stuffed bell peppers that include all the components of the sandwich (straight from the Daily Bite [Make]!).

Lincoln

What meal is fit for a president? Celebrate the 16th man in power and the epic Civil War film by creating a dish that focuses on some of Lincoln’s favorites: apples and quails.

Enjoy the game bird with this quail stuffed with apples and chanterelles from Oregon Live.

Zero Dark Thirty

The controversial film about the capture of Osama Bin Laden is the perfect opportunity to cook some Middle Eastern fare, but we chose to concentrate on a lighter moment from the heavy flick: when the chief prisoner interrogator shares his ice cream cone with the cage of monkeys.

Make your own cone filling with this greek frozen yogurt recipe from YumSugar.

And don’t forget to watch “Fresh Guacamole”–the short film nominee by PES.

Do you watch the Oscars? What movie are your rooting for?

  1. Honestly, I only really watch the red carpet, I find it much more interesting than the actual show. Of course I will have the show on when it’s airing, but I don’t pay as close attention to it as I do to the red carpet… I am however interested to see how Seth McFarlen does as host!

  2. I am definitely watching, and am rooting for Tommy Lee Jones to win best supporting actor.
Got an addition for you Oscar party menu: in honor of the movie Flight there should be “flights” of wine, perhaps to go with a Life if Pie?;)
