Dinner and a Movie: Happy Birthday Jack Nicholson!

It’s that time of week again! Time to unwind with a little dinner and a movie action. On April 22, one of our all-time favorite actors is turning 77, and we think it is only right to give him a little attention on this day. Who are we talking about? Jack Nicholson. Nicholson has been in the movie business for over 60 years now, but his movies never get old. The variety in his performances are perfect and that raspy voice is recognizable anywhere. This week, help us celebrate Jack Nicholson’s 77th birthday with some dinner and a movie!

We can’t imagine what you would eat in an isolated hotel that is possessed by supernatural spirits that encourage you to murder your family, but we figure that if you were running from your recently deranged father, you would want to have a full stomach. Stanley Kurbrik’s The Shining, is a creepy thriller that is sure to have you checking around corners and doors after you watch it. Jack Nicholson’s performance is as frightening and fantastic as ever in this film. Try this steak tips recipe for dinner and settle in for a long, cold, and downright isolating winter  with the Torrence family.

Something’s Gotta Give + Pear and Gorgonzola Salad (via Babble)

Let’s switch gears a bit and watch something a little less terrifying with Something’s Gotta Give. Jack Nicholson proves he still has it as an older man who dates younger women. That is until, he falls in love with a woman who is closer to his age, and then has to win her over after years of trying to repel older women. Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson’s chemistry in this movie is just spicy enough to root for. Pretend you are summering in the Hamptons with the cast of this film while enjoying a light salad for a light movie. This pear and gorgonzola mix should be a perfect compliment to the film.

The Departed + Canoli Bites (via Lexbake)

The short break from the adrenaline pinchers was a nice break, but we are back with Martin Scorsese’s The Departed. This film follows the lives of two cops in South Boston, one of whom was trained by the crooked mob boss, Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson), to be a mole in Boston PD. This film is loved by many, just like the dessert we chose. Cannolis are a delicacy in South Boston, so we found a variation of the traditional cannoli for you to test. Let us know how you like your cannoli bites, while watching this intense crime drama! Stressed spelled backwards IS desserts after all…
