Dinner and a Movie: Titanic Remembrance Day

Jack and Rose for Dinner and a Movie Titanic Remembrance Dayvia

April 15th is Titanic Remembrance Day, a day in which people take the time to commemorate the sinking of the great and indestructible ship, The Titanic, on April 14, 1912. 102 years ago, over 1500 people died aboard that ship, perishing in the icy waters of the Atlantic. In 1997, James Cameron brought the story back to life with his masterpiece, Titanic, which tells the fabricated love story of Jack, a poor artist, and Rose, a rich betrothed girl, who met upon the Titanic. Cameron’s film was critically acclaimed in 1997, and has since become one of the classic love stories of our time. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet became the world’s favorite forbidden couple, and “My Heart Will Go On” has forever changed the meaning of a love ballad. In honor of Titanic Remembrance Day, dinner and a movie is watching Titanic and eating some delectable seafood a la cruise style.

Crab Cake Poppers (via Foodie Crush)

Crab Cake Poppers for dinner and a movie Titanic

Titanic is a long movie, two tapes when it was sold on VHS! That only means one thing: a full course meal is a must. Start the film with some seafood appetizers to get you into the mind set of being on a 1900 luxury cruise. These crab cake poppers are just modern enough to eat with your fingers, yet classy enough to pair with a timeless movie like Titanic.

Surf and Turf (via My Gourmet Connection)

Surf and Turf for Dinner and a Movie Titanic

You may have to spend your entire day preparing this meal, but look at just how incredible it looks. Surf and turf is definitely a “special occasion” type of meal, but splurge on yourself just once. Imagine being on the Titanic (pre sinking travesty) and eating in that grand dining room: this is what would be on your plate. Now that your mouth is watering, it doesn’t seem like such an outrageous dinner option does it?

Lemon Sorbet (via Taste of Home)

I once heard that sorbet is a palette cleanser, so why not cap off a decadent meal with light dessert. Try some lemon sorbet for a sweet touch to the end of a sad movie.
