Serena Williams is a beast. A four time US Open winner and 15 Grand Slam title kind of beast.

My mom is a huge tennis fanatic. Me, not so much. But because my parents were coming to visit me this year while the US Open was in progress and they made a special trip to Flushing Meadows for what my mom called “a once in a lifetime opportunity” to watch her favorite sport match to the death, I took a bit more interest in the game than I usually would. Needless to say I was thrilled when one of my mom’s favorites stole the show against Victoria Azarenka in Sunday’s US Open match.

The win kind of made me want to dust off my old racquet (that I think I used a total of 5 times before deciding tennis was not my sport). Tennis has tremendous health benefits and the social game is a great activity to add to your mundane fitness regimen if you are stuck in a slump. Who knows, maybe I still have a chance to be the next Serena? Maybe?

Big Girls Small Kitchen shared a recipe for Bluefish Hash with Mustard and Lemon Thyme which is the perfect dish for schmoozing about who has the better backhand and why love is a part of the tennis point system.
