These days, everything you would ever want to know is right here on the internet. However, sometimes nothing can beat the good “old fashioned” feeling of a book in your hands. When it comes to wellness, being in touch with your body and mind extends far beyond your computer chair. Having a hard copy of health tips and tricks with you on a trip, on your commute, in your bookbag or on your bookshelf can make wellness just a page turn away.
Here are some of our favorite wellness reads to motivate and inspire a happier, healthier you.
1. The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight and Saving the Planet by Alicia Silverstone
Vegan superstar Alicia Silverstone has come a long way since her days as Cher in Clueless.
“Miss Stoeger, I would just like to say that physical education in this school is a disgrace. I mean, standing in line for forty minutes is hardly aerobically effective. I doubt I’ve worked off the calories in a stick of Carefree gum.”
In her book, Silverstone shares her story of how she became the activist she is today, and why she decided to go meat and dairy free. Don’t be fooled: this isn’t just a diet book. The author goes in depth about what eating meat does to our environment as well as to our bodies. She wants to educate the reader so they can make more informed decisions about their lifestyle. ($22)
2. Integrative Nutrition: Feed Your Hunger for Health & Happiness by Joshua Rosenthal
This book, written by Joshua Rosenthal, can be thought of as a guidebook to your body. He is not advocating for one particular diet to maintain or fitness regimen to adopt because the author believes there is no one size fits all way to take care of your body. The book aims to have its readers become aware of what is best for their bodies and make lifestyle decisions based on themselves. He outlines various diets, food plans, tips and recipes giving readers the knowledge to take the next step any way they choose. ($20)
3. May Cause Miracles by Gabrielle Bernstein
Bernstein is the definition of a new age modern guru. Her previous book, Spirit Junkie, along with this newly released read aims to make spirituality cool and approachable. The focus on looking within one’s self and positively transforming your life is a goal that every individual can relate to. Acceptance, forgiveness and gratitude are some of the themes Bernstein touches on as she gives some tips for how to transform your sense of self within a matter of days. ($13)
