As someone who actually does drink lemon water every morning, I must say it’s super beneficial and I love it. I’ve been doing it for about a month and I for sure skip mornings here and there, I’m only human! Here’s what I’ve noticed in just one month: I haven’t gotten sick (which I usually do this time of year with allergies and what not), I’m more energized in the morning/throughout the day, and my stomach feels better and healthier even after a heavy meal. I’ve gotten a few people on board with this too, which is the biggest reward of all! I have read a few blogs of people who have done it for a year and are never going back, and I can see why. Some people don’t even need coffee anymore because of all the energy it gives them. But anyways, here are the reasons you should join us on the hot lemon water train!

Aids In Weight Loss
Lemons are high in fiber believe it or not! This helps fight hunger throughout the day and plus, I always find myself making better food choices when I’m fuller in the morning. Lemon water boosts your metabolism and you wont catch yourself snacking in the middle of the day.
Freshens Breath
Not only does hot lemon water freshen up your breath which is a plus in of itself but it also has been known to relieve tooth pain and gingivitis! And yes lemons are very acidic which isn’t great for your enamel so try to brush your teeth before drinking lemon water to protect your teeth.
Good For Your Skin
Vitamin C and antioxidants found in lemon helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. The vitamin C will give your skin a natural glow while helping fight certain bacteria that causes acne. Some say you can even apply lemon to your scars or age spots to reduce their appearance! Lemon water is rejuvenating and healthy for your skin from the inside out!

Boosts Immune System
Like I said, not even allergies have gotten in my way since I started. Vitamin C is the best remedy for fighting colds and other infections. Lemons are high in potassium which stimulates nerve and brain function (it can make you smarter? maybe!). Vitamin C is an anti-inflammatory agent and can be used as an aid for respiratory problems. The level of vitamin C in your system is one of the first things to decrease when you’re stressed, which is why experts recommend getting extra vitamin C on especially stressful days.
Cleanses System
Lemon juice helps release toxins from your digestive system because of its ability to increase urination. Therefore unwanted materials are flushed out quicker which keeps the urinary tract healthy. Lemon juice can help ease digestion, heartburn, and bloating.
Convinced yet? Here’s how to do it: you’ll need warm water, not cold or boiling hot. Ice cold lemon water may hinder the digestive benefits of the lemon by making your body work harder to warm it up and boiling hot water can destroy some of the enzymes making it less beneficial. So, warm water and a slice of lemon. Some recipes call for half but I feel like that can be too much sometimes and can be wasteful. If you don’t like the taste you should just put lemon in your tea instead. You will get all the benefits of the lemon as well as all the benefits of the tea. Add honey or ginger for a flavor kick!
