Rose Hips: “The New Natural Wonder Drug”?

rosehip benefits

Wild rose hips oil has been seen all over the celebrity world recently. From Kate Middleton’s personal facialist to Miranda Kerr herself, people all over the world are swearing by this stuff! A new study conducted by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University suggests that rose hips have powerful and long lasting health benefits.

Researchers at the North Carolina university, took samples of triple negative breast cancer cells (meaning they have tested negative for estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and human epidermal receptors) and exposed them to different levels of rose hips. Turns out that the cell samples that were exposed to the highest concentration of the natural extract decreased cancer cell growth by 50 percent. Although it has been stated that more research is needed on the effects of rose hips on cancer, there is no denying its other amazing health benefits.

Yahoo Health explains that rose hips contains way more vitamin C than an orange, a high level of vitamin A, provides a healthy immune system and acts as a natural laxative. Rose hips can be eaten raw, soaked in water overnight then cooked in hot water, blended down into a juice or smoothie or taken orally as a supplement. We can also get our daily dose of this powerful plant through jams, pies, tea, wine and various over-the-counter products. But, “Fresh hips are the best way to get the high levels of vitamin C, since the processing methods used to create the dried version can strip out a lot of the nutrients,” according to Yahoo Health.

The health benefits don’t end at vitamin C. There is evidence that suggests it also helps with skin integrity! It contains anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling properties along with keeping your hair, skin and nails hydrated. Rose hips oil contains healthy fatty acids that keep the skin healthy and plump. This powerful fruit also fights against free radical damage, helps people with acne problems and lessens the appearance of acne scars. Wow! Who knew one little fruit could do so much?
