What is An ElliptiGO?

ElliptiGO bike

If you like working out outdoors but you enjoy using a traditional elliptical, this hybrid piece of exercise equipment will intrigue you. ElliptiGO is half bicycle and half elliptical and allows users to get an elliptical kind of workout without being stuck inside a gym. This new trend has been all over the world, including in many cities in the United States. It has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and on Good Morning America.

Co-Founder Bryan Pate invented the ElliptiGO after she was no longer able to run for fitness. He sustained a hip and knee injury which meant he could only participate in low impact exercise. Bicycling wasn’t really an option for him because he found sitting on the bicycle and being fixed in one position uncomfortable. This inspired him and his partner Brent Teal. It took them three years and two prototypes to create the ElliptiGO we see today. The first one was sold in 2010 to an elderly bicyclist who could no longer ride due to an injury. Since then they have sold over 8,000 units.

How can you try an ElliptiGO? Test rides are offered so you can learn how the basics on how to use equipment, click here for more information on test rides. Once you decide you like it,  you can rent it or buy one. On average to rent an ElliptiGO it will cost you $10-$20 an hour or $50-$75 a day. Most rentals require a deposit of some kind. To purchase a unit it can cost from $1,800 to $4,000. It’s seems expensive but to buy a traditional elliptical it can cost from $800-$7,000 and the average gym membership cost from $650 to $800 a year.

Even though the price is a little steep, you should still give it a try it. Around the country ElliptiGO offers free test ride events. If you have sustained injuries from other forms of exercise this is something you definitely look into. Below are so videos of ElliptiGOs in action.

  1. I have wanted to try this SOOOO BADLY! I am a pro ellipticaler!!! So this is a must-try! I know that the Venice boardwalk rents these out, so I really just need to get on down there. It looks too much fun! 😉 I should actually just buy one in general though, then I could also buy the stationary piece and have both a stationary and an on the god elliptical!
