Wellness Wire: Running for Charity

Finding the time and motivation to plan and train for a road race of any length is no easy feat. Whether it’s a fun run, a 5K, or even a full marathon, it never hurts to have a little extra inspiration when it comes to getting yourself in the right shape (both mentally and physically) for a race.

Running for charity can be a great way to get you on the right track. The extra motivation brought on by the idea of participating in an event to benefit a greater cause may be just what you need to sign up for your first race, or to train harder to beat a PR.

Here are three great fundraising races that’ll get you motivated in all the right ways!

1. Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

With locations all across the US, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is the largest and most successful breast cancer fundraising event in existence. Since they started, the races have raised over $2 billion that has been dedicated to funding research about all elements of breast cancer. Find a location near you and get training today!

2. The Gorilla Run

If you’re interested in a fundraising campaign that’ll save an endangered species, then this is the run for you. The proceeds from these Gorilla Runs (currently with 5 locations in the US and Canada) are donated to the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. Added bonus: your entry fee also gets you a gorilla suit that you can choose to wear to the race, and then keep! See if there’s a Gorilla Run near you!

3. Run 10 Feed 10

This series of 10K races is hosted by Women’s Health Magazine in partnership with FEED, and it aims to raise money to eliminate global hunger. The official 10K races are in NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco, and there are also fun runs in other cities across the nation. There is also the opportunity to “Run Your Own 10K” and raise funds while doing so. Find out more info here!
