Is It Really Possible To Tone Your Butt With Yoga?

As an avid “yogi”, my friends always ask me if yoga is great for “toning” or if it really helps with weight loss. Yes and yes, but of course it depends.

The key to weight loss through yoga is sweating – at least, that’s the case in my experience. This can be done either through practicing hot or bikram yoga or through vigorous vinyasa practices. Because I can’t stand heat, I always rely on pushing myself to the max during a vinyasa class. I do this through staying aware, paying attention to getting closer and closer to perfect form, moving through every chaturanga with precision, and working on strength-based moves like arm and leg balances and planks.

You’d be surprised what a difference the practice in and of itself has made on my arm and back strength and tone specifically!

If I could say that there was one yogi that inspires me the most, Tara Stiles would certainly be up there. The yoga guru is all about incorporating modern day living with the gentle practices but advanced moves of yoga.

In the video above she addresses a popular concern of many ladies – the butt. While I am a sucker for squats and a proponent for plyometrics, yoga also has the potential to make a big impact on your booty, believe it or not. Here Stiles demonstrates a move that really helps to work your rear.

But, that’s not all. Did you know that yoga can also help you get rid of cellulite, stimulate the lymphatic system and detoxify your body? As if I needed any more of a reason to go to your daily practice.

An extra tip? Try heading to your local mat class in the AM. This will not only set an intention for the day ahead and energize you before work, but will also lift your spirits and promote positivity!
