As the weather continues to get colder, it gets progressively harder to get up, get out of bed, and get to the gym. Some days, waking up and still seeing dark skies is enough to make me hit the “snooze” button and say “Oh well” to my date with the gym. I’ll be the first person to admit that getting yourself to go to the gym in the winter, especially in the mornings, and especially on Mondays is almost impossible. It’s almost as if the world is completely against you. However ladies (and gentlemen), there is hope for us yet.
On Sunday night as you curl up in bed with your warm cup of chamomile tea, tell yourself “I will go to the gym tomorrow.” Say it in your head, say it out loud, do whatever it takes. Put your alarm on the opposite side of the room so in the morning when the clock strikes ‘gym time’ you’ll be forced out of bed (even if your intention is only to hit snooze). Once you’re out of bed you might as well go to the gym, you’re already awake and out from under the covers.
Still not convinced? We’ve got some awesome motivation for your workout this week. One key part of any successful workout is having good music and a plan. This week’s Music Monday workout is a killer ab workout set to Calvin Harris’s “Thinking About You”. This song has a great beat and is fun to work out to. The workout circuit is short but you’ll really feel the burn with this one. Take each exercise slowly, make sure to keep your muscles engaged the whole time, and I promise you’ll be sore the next day.
Pair this circuit with a half hour of cardio or other strength training exercises for a full body workout that will get your week off to the right start. Good luck! Happy Monday!
