Don’t Toss Those Citrus Peels, Upcycle Them!

We use oranges, lemons and grapefruits for so many different food recipes, it’s hard to name them all. But who knew you could use your citrus, particularly the peels, to create homemade cleaning solution?

In the video above, Marianne Canada from HGTV is showing us how to upcycle those citrus peels and get the most bang for our buck.

To set started, place your peels in a jar that can seal. You can add other scents to the jar to enhance your spray. Canada recommends orange and cinnamon, lemon and rosemary, and grapefruit and lavender.

Next, fill your jar with distilled vinegar, and then cover with the lid. After you’ve labeled your solution with the date and ingredients, allow it to site for a couple of weeks, but no longer than a month.

When time is up, fill that empty vinegar bottle halfway with distilled water. Then, using a strainer and a funnel, fill the rest of the bottle with your citrus solution. Attach a spray nozzle, and that’s all!

While this homemade cleaning solution may take a few weeks before it’s good to go, it’s so worth the wait. Not only will you have your own delicious smelling cleaner that cost practically nothing, you’ll also be staying away from harsh chemicals! It’s a win/win.
