Guacamole is basically its own food group in our minds. You can put it on toast, a burger, a taco — pretty much everything and anything that needs a little extra flavor and creaminess. The only downside is that while avocados are super healthy, they tend to also be super high in fat. This is why we love the video above from Lisa Lillien of Hungry Girl, who is showing us how to make a healthy guacamole recipe.
Lillien’s secret ingredient for cutting the calories is… peas! That’s right a can of peas will make all the difference.
To get started, simply blend the peas until they are smooth. Next, grab one medium-size avocado and mash it together with the peas. Then, mix in 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt, which happens to have a to of protein. And simply season your snack up with garlic, cumin, chili powder, lime juice, tomatoes, onion, salt and pepper.
Lillien is sure to tell us that not only does it look like guacamole and smell like guacamole, but it seriously tastes like the higher-in-calories version.
With so many parties coming up this year, we’re definitely going to add this to the list of must-haves.
