Happy Birthday to the one and only Quentin Tarantino. Although some can argue that Tarantino’s work is crass and violent, he is unarguably one of the greatest film directors of all time. With his status as a director and leader of massive cult followings, he has managed to make his way into American households as an icon in pop culture. March 27th marks 51 years of Tarantino’s life, and dinner and a movie wants to honor him (whether you love him or hate him) by watching a few of his greatest films and eating some fantastic food. The movie that put Tarantino on the market as a notable film director is Pulp Fiction. In four intersecting stories, audiences get to watch as a pair of diner thieves, two hitmen, a boxer, and the wife of a menacing gangster, come together in a tale of violent redemption. With a stacked cast of actors including, John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, and Tim Roth, this film is hands down a winner. What better way to watch Pulp Fiction than with a Chicken Club Sandwich (diner style of course) in hand? Kill Bill Vol. 1 is Tarantino’s “female power” film with Uma Thurman giving a masterful performance as “the bride”. The bride, who is also pregnant, falls into a deep coma, only to wake up and learn that she is no longer pregnant and she also has no baby. She sets out on a quest for vengeance, with confidence from her Japanese martial arts training, on the people who caused her such pain. Do not be intimidated by the sound of this traditional Japanese dish. Afterall, if the bride in Kill Bill Vol. 1 can get to the ever so mysterious Bill, than this recipe should be no problem for an avid cook!

In one of his more recent films, Tarantino takes us back in time to Nazi occupied France, where the dreamy Brad Pitt is head of a specialized troop of soldiers whose only order is to kill all Nazis. This film is certainly gruesome, but the story will have you on edge and rooting for the Inglorious Basterds. A terrifyingly wicked Christoph Schulz plays the head Nazi, who just loves his dessert. Try some French dessert crepes to get in the spirit of this captivating movie.
