Dinner and a Movie: Forrest Gump’s Anniversary

Dinner and a Movie: Forrest Gump's Anniversaryvia

If you can believe it, July 6th marks the 20th anniversary of the day Forrest Gump became a household name. That’s right, “RUN, Forest, ruuunnnn…” and “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are gonna get” said in that southern twang, became phrases that the world would fondly say when referring to Forrest Gump and a plethora of other things. This heartwarming movie has proven to withstand the test of time because – twenty years later – people are still celebrating it.

In fact, come September, theaters across the country will be showing it again in honor of its anniversary. We say: why wait though? Watch Forrest Gump with us for this week’s dinner and a movie and try out a few new recipes to eat during. This is a long one, so a little dinner with your movie should make for a great night! Plus, how much more #American does this get? Happy July 4th!

There is nothing like a chilled glass of lemonade to keep cool in the south. Forrest’s long story starts out in the early stages of his childhood growing up in the south. With his best friend Jenny, Forrest conquers his fears and finds his way out of his southern comfort living. We could only imagine Jenny and Forrest drinking some lemonade in a tree, so we think you should try this lemonade recipe. It isn’t your typical lemonade recipe, but we think the rosemary can add a little extra sophistication to a traditional drink.

We couldn’t very well have a Forrest Gump dinner  without a shrimp recipe. Gump, being the kind soul he is, lives out his war buddy’s life long dream of owning a shrimp boat. Shrimp is an easy food to cook up real fast (if it has been peeled already of course), so try this shrimp and vegetable medley for dinner during Forrest’s adventure on his Bubba Gump shrimpin’ boat.

According to Forrest, “life is like a box of chocolates” so there is only one way to end this classic movie and that is: with a box of chocolates. Chocolates are fairly simple to make, luckily. The difficult part will be to figure out what you would like to add to them. Get creative and enjoy the final scenes of Forrest Gump!
