The latest refreshment from the Pepsi world is a cola that fends off fat. Sounds too good to be true, right?
Pepsi recently released a healthy soda to the Japan market known as Pepsi Special. The drink is essentially a fiber-packed cola. It contains dextrin, a dietary fiber that dissolves in water and is found in fiber supplements like Benefiber. The claim is that the beverage will help suppress the absorption of fat, lower cholesterol levels and prevent the rise of triglycerides after a meal.
No information has been released regarding the other nutritional components of the luxury gold cola such as the amount of sugar or corn-syrup it contains in comparison to other Pepsi products. However, the flavor will be a bit different. A spokesman of Pepsi said that it would have a “crisp, refreshing and unique aftertaste.” Won’t be getting on a plane to Japan to find out what a “unique” after taste means any time soon.
The supposed health benefits of Pepsi Special landed the cola with a FOSHU (Food for Specified Health Uses) government designation in Japan, but the FDA has yet to approve the suspect nutrient-boosting beverage.
