In honor of the launch, Crunch held a very special class with the Brooklynettes themselves. As I walked into the studio, I can’t deny that I was slightly intimated, but felt more at ease as they began the class. With high energy, they described the workout as a combination of cardio, strength, and even a choreography routine they perform at live games.

Almost immediately as the workout began, I felt my heart rate raising. Despite being a workout-aholic, I shy away from cardio opting to ride a bike and walk outdoors than be stuck on a treadmill for an allotted period of time. The great thing about this routine is that it is fun and fits the bill for cardio while torching calories, but you hardly notice it at all! Monotony and tediousness? Definitely not here.

In addition to cardio, there were a few squats, push-ups, mountain climbers, and more interspersed throughout the warm-up. This loosened us up for the true challenge lying ahead: the choreography routine.

Ok, I will admit that I definitely will not be guest-judging Dancing with the Stars anytime soon, but I have a bit of a dance background. However, like any sport, the key to making it appear rhythmic and effortless is consistent practice – and that was something I had not done since high school.

Luckily, our Brooklynettes made sure to make us all feel comfortable and at ease with ourselves. There was no need for self-consciousness, because it was all about having fun! The choreography would be demonstrated by the girls slowly at first and one portion at a time (the same way it is presented online), then a few times at a more “advanced pace”. Once we had mastered that segment, we moved on to other portions of the routine. At the end, the class weaved it all together for one comprehensive dance and an explosive finish.

It was exhilarating, to say the least. I caught myself giggling here and there at my failed attempts at some iconic hip-hop moves, but it was all in good fun and I made sure keep at it until completion – which is the true key to unlocking the benefits of this dance workout.

Not only do you walk out of the class with a visible sweat going, but also with a sense of accomplishment. This is surely the case whether you dance with the Brooklynettes in person or online. It is one workout you should definitely be including in your routine.
