Daily Bite [Watch]: Oldest Man in the World Died

Easy Tips for a Longer Life

The oldest man ever, Jiroemon Kimura, died at age 116 yesterday. According to the Guinness World Records, Kimura was the first man in history to have lived to the age of 116.

Kimura was born in Kyotango, Japan in 1897. Even though he lived through to see the start of the 1900s and the 2000s, he was well off from the all-time record of the longest living person in history. French woman Jeanne Calment died at age 122.

Kimura stated that he attributes his long life to eating light and healthy meals. And we can’t argue with that.

It only takes a few minutes a day to improve your health for the long haul. Try these good-for-you habits (beyond eating right and exercising) and maybe you will compete with the oldest man in the world.

  1. Go overboard on the sunscreen. If you recall, we just learned that upping your sunscreen routine can slow your skin’s aging process.
  2. Treat yourself to chocolate. A dark chocolate a day keeps the doctor away.
  3. Take your time chewing. Not only will your extra chew time help make nutrients easier to absorb, your body will have more time to signal when you are full so you eat less.
  4. Stretch away! Regular stretching can improve posture and prevent muscle soreness. Your body will appreciate it.
  5. Make time for you. We live in a stress-filled world. Give yourself a break from it by finding outlets that focus on blowing off your steam.
