“You can’t embrace your whole life if you’re shut down.” – Steve Perry
Musician Steve Perry, former front man of the band Journey, has just revealed to his fans that he recently underwent a series of operations to remove cancer cells following a diagnosis of melanoma skin cancer. This follows the extremely devastating loss of his girlfriend, Kellie Nash, this past December to a long battle with breast cancer.
Facing any type of situation like this is no easy task. Whether it’s medical, work-related, or deals with your personal life, it’s often easier to dwell on bad news than it is to draw up the strength to move on and rekindle your passion for life.
Here are three ways to take Steve’s message to heart by adding some brightness to your everyday life to get you back on the right track:
1. Unleash your creative side
It’s easy to get overly wrapped up in work. Take a break from the daily grind and snap a quick photo or sketch a fun doodle. Capture and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you every day, and remind yourself of what’s out there.
2. Make a “goal” list instead of a “to do” list
A page full of tasks and chores can be daunting and often overwhelming. Take on a more positive outlook and think of items as achievements. At the end of the day, revisit your accomplishments and take pride in your work.
3. Have something to look forward to at the end of the day
Whether it’s planning on going to your favorite yoga class or setting a dinner date with a friend, doing something that makes you happy will definitely lift your spirits so you can move above and beyond whatever is holding you back.
