From Ab Attack to Zumba, fitness classes are one way to change up your workout or add in some friends. POUND is the latest dance fitness craze, combining drumming, interval cardio training and strength training for a full body workout. It was founded in 2011 by Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Peerenboom, Los Angeles based drummers and fitness experts. Each class, from warm-up to cool down, is 45 minutes long. The music, called the “POUNDtrack”, is composed of 2 to 4 minute songs that help you drum through 70 different exercise techniques. The drum sticks used for the class aren’t the ones you remember from band camp, instead they’re called Ripstix, and each weighs .25lb.
POUND currently hosts classes and instructor certifications in 70 cities in the U.S., plus Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Australia and soon, Chile! If POUND is not taught in your city, you can sign up for your first month of Online Classes for just $14.95, which includes your own pair of Ripstix. After that, online classes are just $9.99 per month. Also you can purchase your own Ripstix from the Pound official website for $14.95. POUND is also launching a fitness DVD in December.
I work out… But not like a rock star because I actually do not and cannot listen to music when I work out! I may be the only person! LOL
