We Review: SKINS Compression Sportswear Is Perfect For The Athlete Within You

We were recently invited to the SKINS Compression Sportswear event in New York City for the release of their new Spring fitness apparel line. Not only did we get to wear some of their latest gear, but we got to put it to the test in a relatively short (but deadly) Crossfit session!

The company specializes in compression clothing that utilizes cutting-edge fitness technology and materials that enhances the workout experience and even aids in recovery post-workout. They definitely did their homework, stating on how they designed their apparel:

We now know what compression levels are required for specific muscle groups whilst static, during activity and in post exercise recovery. We know where you need movement for comfort and injury prevention, and how to get the best circulatory benefits for more oxygen delivery and reduced lactic acid build-up.”

It doesn’t hurt that the pieces are also expertly designed to be the most flattering fit possible for both males and females with perfectly placed seams and coming in an array of intricate prints and hues.

While putting our fitness and endurance to the test, we wore the tights below and were pleasantly surprised by the results and comfort, so we decided to try a few more pieces out and give you the full scoop on the brand that pro-athletes – like New York Giants’ punter Steve Weatherford, who happened to be in attendance to the event – have no problem getting behind.

A200 Women’s Speed Crop Top in Pink

Girls will feel me out on this. Sports bras are so difficult. This is especially the case if you were *blessed* with a full bust. More often than not, I find that sports bras are either too thin and have insufficient support or they create an uncomfortable flattening and “squashing” of sorts. You will be happy to hear that this bra does nothing of the sort. Providing support, medium padding, and a sweat-wicking fabric, there are no complaints whatsoever. In addition, this bra can be used in multiple activities whether you are going on a jog, practicing some yoga, or getting in on an intense and sweaty Crossfit session. The shape is classic but its capabilities are impressive.

A200 Women’s Compression Racer Back Top

This compression tank feels like a million bucks. It truly does. Not only is the fabric great and makes you feel all “sucked in”, but it’s breathable simultaneously. A couple things to note, however, is that this makes for an especially great option if you’re not self-conscious. When we say compression, we mean it, and while it does a good job of skimming over curves, it also makes it easier to see any and every “ripple”. It is also important to note that this top does not have a built-in bra. May we we suggest the speed crop from above?

In addition, due to the tight fit, we recommend this top for high-impact sports specifically like running, plyometrics, and (yes) Crossfit. It reduces much unwanted bounce. I wouldn’t wear this, for example, to a yoga session as I like to let “loose” during long asanas in more comfy silhouettes, but other activities that require less stretching would seem fitting. I personally wore this to a 1 hour and 30 minute session of weight lifting and cardio and felt great in it – never too sweaty!

A400 Women’s Compression Long Tights

Finally, we come to the pants. Besides looking uber cool and flattering on us, we could hardly tell they were on, and that’s seriously a good thing. I religiously wear compression shorts to any and every workout because I find pants too constricting. Whether it is just a personal preference or maybe many have this concern, it’s definitely not something you have to worry about with these tights. Burpee your time away to a nicer tush with 0 discomfort. Ok, maybe not zero – seeing as how burpees are one of the less favored workout movements – but definitely without having to worry about any clothing adjustments or being weighed down by sweat.

Overall, SKINS apparel is worth the investment. While I would not find it necessary for workouts like yoga or dance-based classes that are lower impact, it is definitely something that can serve you before, during, and after higher impact sports and activities. Why before? Because who wouldn’t get pumped for a workout when they have on some of the sleekest and most stylish duds in the industry?

We also suggest keeping your eye on the brand for their upcoming Spring line coming out in February for even more incredible prints and designs that you won’t be able to resist from buying! Here’s a sneak peek. Stay tuned!
