Wellness Around the World: Reebok CrossFit 5th Ave

The problem with falling in love with CrossFit is finding the right box (those are just CrossFit-affiliated gyms). The workouts, of course, can be done at any box across the country, but how do you pick the one that’s right for you? The most we can do for you is help by recommending Reebok CrossFit 5th Avenue.

For those of you who don’t know what CrossFit is, we’ll give you a little tutorial. See, the thing about CrossFit is that it not only gets you in amazing shape, but it also boasts that whole I’m-an-intense-athlete vibe, which is pretty much an aphrodisiac in and of itself. The problem with normal, everyday, gym-in-the-apartment-building workouts is that they’re boring and, while any exercise is going to pump you with endorphins, they don’t make you feel simultaneously — and perhaps paradoxically — invincible and exhausted. You suddenly become a hero because your arms feel like limp pasta.

Simply put, CrossFit is a strength-and-conditioning program. Not-so-simply put, you’re doing functional and varied movements at a very high intensity with all sorts of equipment — think jump ropes, kettle bells, pull-up bars, rings, etc — and in a short period of time. By the end of a 30-minute workout, it might as well have been raining inside the box — your shirt will be an entirely different color.

So, what’s so special about Reebok CrossFit 5th Avenue? One of the coolest — and what turns out to be most motivational — aspects of CrossFit is its reliance on community and competition. Wherever you end up — there are boxes all across the country — you’re going to become close with the people you’re working out with — including the coaches. And that’s the reason Reebok CrossFit is so popular: The coaches and the community are not only intense, but they’re also friendly, encouraging, and always, always welcoming.

Now, the only issue surrounding Reebok CrossFit is price: If you want the best, you’re going to have to cough up some cash. The registration fee alone is $250, and then a year-long membership is $200 a month. But remember — you’re not just paying for a fitness class (in a very new, very clean gym, we might add): You’re paying for the community, the intensity, and the coaching.
