Resolution season is upon us. This can be a health blessing or just another year of saying and not doing. The super-accurate brains behind Daily Dishonesty creates posters of the “lovely little lies” we tell ourselves about our bad habits. You’ll find every quotable quote you have uttered about your wannabe healthy lifestyle from “I’ll do it later” and “My diet starts next week.” She is poking fun, of course, but unfortunately most of them are not foreign sentences.
Needless to say, we can relate…to more than one.
Let’s break free of the healthy living dishonesty we tell ourselves for 2013, shall we?
1. One of These Days (We Swear)
How many times have you said this? No, really…how many? Sure, your intentions are always good and you may even start the week off with salads and gym dates but by the following Friday you are back to the weekly ritual: “My diet actually starts this week.” Break the habit once and for all by getting real with yourself. Keep a journal, schedule your gym sessions and learn from your past mistakes.
2. Hi, Huge Waste of Clothing Money
And there they are…hanging untouched in your closet. Why, oh why?! We latch on to a particular clothing size and hope that if we just eat a little better and exercise a little harder that we can eventually fit into the number that defines us. Stop it! Stop it right now! Buy clothes that fit your body now and then go on a very deserved shopping trip when you lose a few pounds. You will stop wasting money and start feeling good in the clothes you have.
3. Oops, There Goes the Bottle
The “just one drink” always leads to two…or more. Moderation is KEY. Pour yourself a lovely glass of nice chardonnay or kick your feet up to a gin and tonic but just know that one is the limit. If you really can’t stop at just one try to abstain from having any liquid courage at all. You’ll be thankful when you are hangover-free the next day.
4. Weekend Calorie Counting…Who Does That?
Other alternative proclamations: “Alcohol calories are free” or “All the little nibbles that I take throughout the day are fake.” No matter how you spin it, calories still add up to larger love handles or it can add up to the right amount of fuel your body needs. Weekends tend to be looser and after a few cocktails falling off the wagon completely sounds like a good idea, but the madness has to end. Stick to a cheat meal not a full-blown cheat weekend. And plan your week to allowing for some leeway to indulge without putting a big fail sticker on your goals.
5. Sleep is for Losers
No it is not enough. Midday naps are longer than that. For years the general rule of thumb on a full night’s sleep is 8 hours and the number is not completely arbitrary. Your body will slowly (but surely) feel the consequences of not getting enough shut eye from lack of focus to delayed reaction time. End your insomnia and recharge for the next day by preparing your mind for rest an hour before you actually plan to go to bed. Little by little you will get into the 8 hour sleep groove. (Yawning is still allowed on occasion.)
Any of these lies sound familiar to you? How will you commit to changing one of these bad habits in 2013?

Did you make those graphics? How’d you do that? They’re pretty! 🙂 I hope their pretty format will help people change their ways in the New Year! Calories count ALL THE TIME, don’t give me this baloney, lol!
Daily Dishonesty created the wonderful pictures but we could relate so much we had to share! 🙂
