Rah-Rah for Golden Raspberries

Golden raspberries are the perfect fruit to segue us into fall…don’t you think?

The days are tinkering on being warm and crisp at the same time. And if you are a raspberry fan it is the perfect period to start thinking about the golden glow of autumn with yellow raspberries by your side.

Although the yellow spiked berry tastes similar to the red raspberries we know and love, some say that they have a mild sweet taste with have hints of honey or apricot. The “champagne” berries get their golden hue due to the natural absence of red pigment. I tend to agree with the touch of sweetness they have in their hybrid form and basically gobbled my entire carton in one sitting. I felt like the eye-catching berry tasted like a blend of banana and raspberry that I couldn’t get enough of.

The rich amber berries are an excellent source of vitamin C, fiber, calcium and iron. One cup of the seasonal berry has 60 calories and is completely cholesterol and sodium-free. Available until the end of summer and beginning of fall, golden raspberries are a sweet, refreshing treat to be treasured.

Yellow raspberries provide an aesthetic appeal that is purely fall-licious and are highly prized by savvy chefs around the world. But beyond the visual splendor, the lightly acidic sweet-tart taste adds a wonderful touch of flavor to starchy ingredients, salads, desserts and savory dishes. Oh my golly I grew up to neighbors who had bushes of these right by our shared fence and used to feast upon them! Only now do I realize how friggin’ lucky I was.
My pairing for these is playing in the backyard-swinging and monkey-barring! And honeysuckle . We had some I those bushes in the hood too. Dang, for a city we had a lot of plantlife to forage!

You are so lucky! I didn’t grow up with any sort of tree or bush that I could forage fruit off of. Glad your neighbors shared with you 🙂
