When it comes to drinking during the holidays, it’s often inevitable.
Of course you can tell yourself you won’t drink – not even a sip – but is that really realistic? Is that an obtainable goal if you enjoy your occasional cocktail with friends and perhaps a few glasses of wine throughout the week?
Chances are that the answer is no. So, instead of giving yourself unrealistic expectations and setting yourself up for failure – only to get mad at yourself and falling into an “all or nothing” attitude, why not practice moderation and get creative in the kitchen?
As a matter of fact, studies have shown that it’s much more beneficial to practice moderation as opposed to abstaining completely. As long as you are not binge drinking and choose to drink mindfully (think: choosing wine over sugar-y cocktails or having one glass instead of the bottle), you may just be reaping benefits from the holiday drinking.
So how can we help you in this regard instead of just telling you to slow your roll? How about getting creative and making a few drinks yourself?
I know mixing your own cocktails is a little daunting, but once you watch the video player above and see how simple these are (along with how absolute tasty they look) you will be dying to try the all out. Oh yeah, did we mention that these are also low-calorie and much less ruthless on your waistline?
Now, you’ve got a few choices. There’s a Cherry Whiskey Sour, a Sparkling Greyhound and a Citrus Punch. Of course, with how few ingredients each requires you probably could try them all between now and New Years. Not to mention all those dinner and cocktail parties, you’ll certainly have plenty of opportunities.
Watch the playlist above for some easy to follow recipes, exact measurements and ultimate (healthy) cocktail inspiration.
