Fitness Craze: Workouts Go Wild with Animal Flow

We never thought we would see the day when we could do baboon imitations in the gym and not be judged.

But, alas, that day has come.

Crab walks, crocodile rolls and beast crawls are just a few of the moves you have the freedom to do with Animal Flow—the latest fitness craze where people are encouraged to unleash their inner animal for a “workout gone wild.”

But it is not all monkey moves. The no-equipment needed fitness class is a sweat-inducing workout that tones the forgotten muscles you can reach by going primal. Think super-low, thigh-sculpting squats and arm-bearing crawls. The zoo-inspired workout is focusing on the back-to-basics health trend that cherishes using your own body weight for gain strength—and roar like a lion while you are at it. Or maybe that is just what happens when you are being pushed to your physical limits.

Mike Fitch, the creator of Animal Flow, took note that these moves have been around for hundreds of years. He used his knowledge to create a modern version of those old moves in an intense class where participants are almost exclusively on all fours building strength and endurance simultaneously. And suddenly, being a crab at the gym seems…not so cool after all.

The hot new class is being offered at Equinox Fitness Clubs in New York City, but you better believe that if New Yorkers approve of the safari-based workout that you will see Animal Flow in your city soon.

Check out this video of what you can expect if you get a chance to go primal:
