Warm weather is approaching which means we will soon have baskets full of the Earth’s greatest fruit: the strawberry. Ruby red and delicious, it is so much more than just a berry. As if we needed any more reasons to take a bite out of these tasty snacks, some might even say that it is a powerful teeth whitener! So long are the days of  such frequent and expensive tooth whitening treatments and visits to the dentist.

Did you know that strawberries have a large concentration of malic acid, which is a well-known tooth whitening agent? This malic acid actually acts as an astringent. Unlike store bought “skin” astringent, this natural variety is more versatile. Simply munching on them will slightly benefit your teeth but if you want to get the most bang for your buck, mix together one smashed strawberry with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and spread directly on there. Leave the mixture on for about five minutes and then rinse off. Be sure to brush your teeth well afterwards as strawberries do contain sugar. You wouldn’t want to revert all those benefits, would you?

Will you use strawberries as a teeth whitener?
