We have been told for years that we are our own worst enemy, our harshest critics. The newest Dove campaign proves that the way we see ourselves in the mirror is much different than how others see us.
How did they do it? In the beauty brand’s latest campaign they hired an FBI-trained forensic artist to meet with seven women from behind a curtain. Each of the women provided descriptions of themselves based on the questions that the forensic artist provides. Later, the same artist draws a second sketch of each woman based on the descriptions provided by strangers each had met earlier.
The drawings are then displayed side-by-side where the woman see that a stranger had seen them much differently then they see themselves. The strangers didn’t pick out any knit-picky features and described them much more kindly and beautifully than the woman themselves. The woman were notably harsher on themselves then they needed to be.
Dove has been on a mission to uncover Real Beauty since 2004, and this campaign is no different. This campaign is positive and dramatic.
Take a look for yourself:
Part of living a healthy lifestyle is seeing yourself beyond the surface level. This campaign gets an A+ in our book and inspired us to spend more time focusing on what we like instead of only talking about the negatives of our appearance.
What do you think of Dove’s latest campaign? Do you think we are harder on ourselves than we should be?
Okay now THAT is really cool! I would LOVE to take that test and see what the artist comes up with!! Where do I sign up? lol
