Bytes for Breakfast: Weird Holiday Food + Peppermint Pancakes

We did a feature article on weird holiday snacks and their healthy alternatives, but your favorite holiday flavors keep popping up on grocery store shelves from beverages to lip balms. The classic sugar cookie just doesn’t cut it anymore so America’s food giants try to stick their nose on the shelf to get you in the holiday spirit with their “limited time” seasonal treats.

Ever heard of sugar plum soda? Drinking it brings you right to the stage of the Nutcracker…or something. Jones Soda Company released a holiday themed soda pack with candy cane, ginger bread, sugar plum and pear tree flavors. Let’s not forget that Jones is a healthier soda choice because it contains pure cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup. Not sure if that is reason enough to gulp down the ginger bread man, but to each their own!

And the weirdness doesn’t stop there. Add a dash of peppermint to anything during the holidays and consumers will swoon. Pringles released their 3 (artificially flavored) holiday chips: white chocolate peppermint, pumpkin spice and cinnamon sugar. Maybe Pringles got their inspiration from Starbucks.

Even ChapStick is in the mix. For the holidays they released 3 lip-licking flavors: candy cane, apple cider and chocolate truffle. Too odd for a stocking stuffer? We will be grateful you are taking care of your lips during cold season…although we think these DIY seasonal flavors are a bigger hit. (#justsaying)

Take a look at today’s video from Buzz:60 to see if the weird holiday treats lure you in or turn you away:

Want a trip to the North Pole? We prefer to take a trip via pancakes instead of Pringles. The Picky Apple made peppermint pancakes that look too good not to share. Save those tree candy canes for this!
