This study may be old news to some of you, but when Tamara at Fit Knit Chick brought the Canadian egg yolk study up again it made me realize that past news has a way of staying in the forefront of our mind so it is worthy of talking about. And like Tamara pointed out, the conclusion is subjective.
The study from the journal Atherosclerosis claims that eating egg yolks on a regular basis increases plaque buildup about two-thirds more than smoking. Personally, I think if you believe this…the yolks on you. It seems harsh to compare the everyday edible to clogged arteries in the same way a lifelong smoker’s health is impacted.
The researchers left out a lot of factors in their study like if bacon was being served with their eggs or if they were a cake addict. And it didn’t mention any exercise patterns that the participants may have had or not had. The survey study left a lot of buts, what ifs and a load of rotten eggs. I say, don’t eat a million eggs a week, but don’t stop cracking them into a sizzling pan either.
Like one of BSW’s twitter followers commented, if you automatically believe every provocative news headline you read “all food will kill you.”
Here is a video from the Newsy team that provides more details on the egg yolk study:
