5 Head-to-Toe Wellness Trends to Be on the Lookout for in 2013

So 2012 passed us by but left a mark with juice cleanses, CrossFit and a cake pop obsession. And with all trending things those are old news—kind of like the year-old Kate Spade purse you just HAD to have when it hit the shelves last year. That hot-and-fresh feel has faded, you know? In the wellness world, things are always moving forward too. Think healthier eats, more convenient ways to organize your life and fitness boutiques on every corner.

What do we have to look forward to in the health world? Read all about it:

1. Fast-Paced Fitness

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is the name of the game. Yes this means more burpees and push-up jacks at seemingly impossible speeds with short recovery periods. It is like a fitness routine on an adrenaline rush. More and more personal trainers and group class instructors will be incorporating the HIIT system into their workouts which means that more gym rats will catch onto the system on their own. The plus: you see major results without having to rack up hours in the gym.

2. Gluten-Free Becoming a Big Dog

Although gluten-free eating is only necessary for 1% of the population, its popularity amongst the healthy living community and celebrities has made the diet mainstream. Except to see more gluten-free fare on grocery store shelves and in the fast food world too. Yes, big chains like Domino’s are offering gluten-free pizza crusts so we can only imagine what is to come.

3. Embracing Beauty Foods

Your beauty (and your body!) will be in the forefront of your mind with every bite you take. Products like chia seeds and green tea will be promoted as “supermodel foods” because they are health-driven products that double as a beauty foods for your hair, skin and beyond.

4. Wellness in the Workplace

Treadmill desks are just the beginning. More and more employers are bringing in everyday health benefits to the corporate world. Plan on seeing more discounted gym memberships, office Weight Watchers-esque programs and workout conference rooms. We can’t deny that we aren’t excited about the upcoming incentives to stay on the wellness track.

5. Roaming Yoga for the Mind

Check your yoga mat because it will be traveling to festivals around the world. The big rage in the yoga community is back-to-back days of zenning in downward dog with yoga conferences like Wanderlust yoga-music festival. And this is just the beginning. Anticipate bringing your mindfulness, yoga knowledge and music prowess to a whole new level after you experience the new generation of Om. Travel Freak tells us all about the yoga movement.

What are your predictions for health and wellness this year? Did you already know about some of these?

Whoa, I mentioned stand-up desks on your hack fitness post but treadmill desks would take it to a whole new level. A sweaty level. But a fit one;)

I have been gluten-free for 10 years and going strong… Just yesterday my brother was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and he is so sad… but I have a feeling he is going to be able to handle the gluten-free diet because I know he wants to feel better than he currently does!

Oh and I have totally ALWAYS wanted a treadmill desk… I at least have a stand up desk though. It’s funny actually because I do get tired by the EOD when I stand for 6 to 7 hours, LOL!
