Wellness Wire: Most Stressed US Cities and States

Did you feel stressed yesterday?

If you did you could take a day off of work or head to the spa to de-stress, but what we really recommend is moving to Hawaii. And, whatever you do, steer clear of West Virginia.

For the fifth year in a row, the Aloha State was ranked as the most relaxed US location according to a recently published Gallup-Healthways survey on daily stress levels. Hawaii has been in the lead since Gallup started measuring stress in 2008. The latest survey asked residents across the US who experienced stress “yesterday” throughout the year of 2012.

Over 40 percent of those living in West Virginia, Rhode Island, Utah and Massachusetts stated that they were stressed. The northeast is full of urban stressors that likely contributed to being a higher ranked stress spot, but we have to wonder what is going on in Utah.

Not surprisingly, the fast-paced lifestyle of our NYC home is #2 on the most stressful cities list. But hey, at least LA has us beat according to the 2011 Forbes study that analyzed data on wellbeing (unemployment, cost of living, traffic, etc.) to measure the nation’s most stressed out cities.

If you city is on the list (like us) use some of our quick tips to de-stress ASAP so the next time the Gallup survey crew comes knocking you can happily say that you are happy as a clam.
