Stretching while slowly working your body up to movement before a run or other long cardio workout is called dynamic stretching. These stretches allow your body temperature to gradually rise, your muscles to ease into movement, and your joints to be properly loosened before hitting the trail. This will lead to less post-workout pain and an increasingly beneficial exercise.
