This Not That: False Lash Effect Mascaras

The false lash effect is the one of the most popular trends in mascara. Being able to create the look of false lashes with a mascara is cheaper then wearing actual false lashes and takes less time to achieve. There are dozens of mascaras and lash extension systems that promise to double and triple the volume and length of lashes. Some of these products are one mascara that attaches additional fibers and adds colors all at once and there are some systems that contain to different mascaras.

The most buzzed about false lash effect mascaras is Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System. This lash system contains two different mascaras that are applied in 3 steps. One mascara is a black base and top coat (steps 1 and 3). The second mascara is a mixture of white felt fibers which adds the false lash effect to your lashes (step 2).  This mascara system leaves your lashes unbelievably long and shiny. The secret to this cult favorite are the Flexistretch nylon fibers. No matter how much fibers you apply the mascara won’t clump. As you can imagine having nylon so close to your eyeball is one of the drawbacks of this product. The system can be purchased at Sephora for $35 but, before you buy anything, lets weigh the pros and cons.

Pros

– Lets you control how long you want your lashes to be
– Leaves lashes shiny and soft
– Gives you the false lash look without have to spend money and time on false lashes

Cons

– Contains 5 different kinds of parabens
– Has Titanium oxide which may cause eye irritation like itching, swelling, and rashes around the eye
– Is made of nylon, which is made from coal

A healthier alternative to Too Faced lash extension system is Physicans Formula’s Organic Wear Fake Out Mascara. This is also another false lash effect mascara however, it has 100 percent natural origin lash extension fibers. The natural origin lash extensions don’t cause any eye irritation or skin reactions around the eye. Additional benefits of this mascara include that it will last for 24 hours and volume and length to your lashes. For $9, this mascara can be purchased at most drugstores including Target and CVS. Organic Wear Fake Out mascara is also GMO free, paraben free, and sulfate free. If your looking for a fragrance-free and hypoallergenic mascara, you should definitely give this one a try.

Pros

– Will not irritate your eyes
– Is hypoallergenic and Ophthalmologist tested
– Ingredients come from organic farms

Cons

– Only contains 0.26 ounces of product
– Can be hard to find
– Only comes in black

The Verdict: Not only is the Physicians Formula’s Organic Wear Fake Out Mascara cheaper than the Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System, it better. Since it only has one mascara, you can use less product and it won’t irritate your eyes. The organic formula will also make you feel better about putting it so close to your eyes.
