This week there are no more teams, and nowhere to hide because the two people who fall below the yellow line will face elimination. So, other than a lesson in the absence of teamwork, what have we learned?
- People repeat destructive patterns because they are waiting for a different outcome;
- If you want a different outcome, you need to change your behavior; and
- You have nothing to fear except the stuff you create in your mind.
The first challenge is all about temptation. The contestants enter a room full of delicious Valentine’s Day sweets. They will have ten minutes to eat as many calories as they can, and the winner gets a 2 lb advantage on the scale. Huh. Short of vomiting afterwards (which I do not recommend), doesn’t that just cancel itself out? Also, the winner gets to share the love by giving a 2 lb advantage to someone else. As a twist, they will have to face temptation in the dark.
Francelina starts shoveling in the food, as does Alex. Joe sniffs some cake but puts it down. Jackson refuses to even consider eating and instead calmly sips water. Michael resists as well, and Danni gets in a quick workout. Jeff starts snacking, but he doesn’t seem committed to winning. Gina starts shuffling food around and making noises to fool the others think that she’s eating.
When the lights go on, everyone sees who ate what. With Jeff only nibbling, it’s between Francelina and Alex, who both ate over 1,000 calories each. Francelina wins the 2 lb advantage by half of a brownie and gave the other 2 lbs to Alex.
The trainers get to choose who they will work out. Jillian picks everyone who ate at the Temptation Challenge because “if you play, then you have to pay,” so good luck to them. Bob digs into Jackson for only losing one pound last week. And Dolvett is pushing Michael beyond his limit because he knows that Michael can handle it, if only he would let himself try.
Hostess Cupcake introduces the contestants to their challenge on an iceless ice rink. The winner gets to bring a family member to the ranch for 24 hours and also gets to choose one other person to have a visit. The contestants must race to a moving spotlight target, and the last person is out. It keeps going until there is one winner. They also get glow in the dark outfits, because why not?
First round, Gina’s out. Second round, Jackson’s out. Third round, they’re racing up stadium stairs and Michael’s out. Round four, Alex is out. For the final round, it’s Francelina, Danni, and Joe…and Danni wins the challenge. She chooses Gina to get the family visit even though Gina was so in last place that it’s almost like she didn’t even try. And, she gives her own family visit away to Michael so that he can see his wife. Aww.
At the Last Chance Workout, the contestants are feeling the pressure of going into a weigh-in alone. Alex is pissed because she forgot her jump rope at the bottom of the hill and has to go down and back up again. It turns into an explosion with Bob, and I can tell that he wants to get rid of her bad attitude like something fierce. As the smallest person in the house, Gina thinks it means that she has to lose more weight than everyone else, clearly not understanding the “percentage of total weight” aspect of the weigh-in. Gina has another meltdown, and Dolvett talks her back down from her ledge.
It’s time for the weigh-in.
- Francelina has a 2 lb advantage but shoveled in those cakes with both hands, and only loses 4 lbs
- Alex also has a 2 lb advantage and, after cakefest, loses 6 lbs to bring her out of the 200’s
- Danni only loses 6 lbs
- Joe sheds 12 lbs
- Jeff loses 11 lbs
- Gina loses 9 lbs
- Jackson dropped a whopping 13 lbs
- and Michael loses 10 lbs
Michael and Francelina have fallen below the yellow line. Because she won the 2 lb advantage, if there is a tie, Francelina wins. The team hems and haws and ultimately sends Michael home to his lovely wife and son.
On the next episode of The Biggest Loser: if the group loses 70 lbs, they are all safe. Can’t wait!
