Music Monday: Perfect Legs with Robin Thicke

Everyone wants long, lean, sexy legs, and I hate to be the one to tell you…but there’s not quick fix to killer legs. I will, however, let you in on a not-so-secret, toning your legs can be (sort of) fun. Leg day is so important to keep up with, but doesn’t need to be your most dreaded workout of the week. Squats and lunges are so good for your legs (and they’ll help you get a nice booty while you tone up your quads and hamstrings). With the right pump up music and a good circuit routine, you’ll be strutting model legs in no time! The key to having a good leg day is stretching, maintaining proper form, and pushing yourself until your legs burn. If you wake up tomorrow and it hurts to sit on the toilet- you had a super successful leg day!

Squats and lunges will help you build muscle in your thighs and hamstrings. They also help tone your glutes giving you a nice firm tush. When squatting it’s really important to keep good form to avoid injury. Your back should always be straight, never rounded, and you need to get a good solid bend in your knees. The lower you squat, the better your results will be. Also, make sure your legs are aligned with your hips and your knees should never hang past your toes. While lunging, keep your legs aligned with your hips and your toes pointed straight ahead. Again, your back should always be straight and your chest should be up. If it helps, place your hands on your hips for balance. When you lunge, your front knee should not hang past your toes and your back knee should get as close to the ground as possible. When you feel a burning sensation, don’t worry that’s a great thing (keep pushing). Work through the burn and the results will totally be worth it. This week’s Music Monday pick is “Give It 2 U” by Robin Thicke. This song is the perfect mix of motivation and sass to get you going in high gear this Monday. And if you notice, the models in this video have killer legs (the more motivation the better, right?). Happy Squatting!

This song totally pumps me up. Great choice!

I always know I had a good leg workout when I have trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

Jump squats are such a great exercise for that. Another one: jump-switch lunges. Try to do about 20 and you’ll know what I’m talking about!
