Dinner and a Movie: Graduation Classics

May means graduation season and graduation season means a lot of sad young adults who are excited that classes are over, but have no idea what to do with the rest of their lives. While we can help you with some of that stress, we would also like to leave it to Hollywood to make some of the best movies based on human confusion. After all, graduation is the perfect platform to explore such conflicting feelings. BSW picked out a few movies and recipes to help everyone survive this turbulent time of year. This week’s dinner and a movie is in honor of the graduates. Congratulations to you all and learn a few lessons from these movies: life after school is not as bad as they say.

The Graduate is the ultimate graduation movie. Benjamin Braddock graduates college and moves home, only to find himself drowning in uncertainty and parental expectations. If this film isn’t a relatable topic of conversation for college grads, than nothing is. Luckily, we have picked out an appetizer recipe that turns finger sandwiches into diplomas, how very appropriate.

So this film might not exactly be about graduation per se, but it certainly brings up the question of school and the impact it has on our lives. Mr. Holland’s Opus is one of the most underrated tear jerkers of all time. We suggest this movie if you are getting nostalgic for your early school days. To eat: try a steak sandwich. It isn’t too fancy, but it is good enough to call dinner!

10 Things I Hate About You + Chocolate Dipped Strawberries (Via Punchbowl)

We have been looking for a way to get 10 Things I Hate About You on the dinner and a movie list for a long time now, and this seemed to be the most appropriate way. A movie about the woes of high school, love, and growing up, this movie will bring you right back to freshman year all over again. You can be sad about graduation, just be happy you are past those days. Our last pick for food may be more difficult to make, but give it a try! Chocolate dipped strawberries that look like graduation caps and gowns are the perfect dessert to have to celebrate such a momentous day!

Here are more reasons why you should love chocolate!

Are you a #Classof2014 graduate? How are you celebrating?

Not a graduate this year but I’d be happy to celebrate anyone who is with those chocolates! And…I confess I STILL haven’t seen 10 Things I Hate About You. I know.
