Dinner and a Movie: The Good Lie

It is finally that time of the week. Time for dinner and a movie. This week we are going to unwind with some cooking and a few Reese Witherspoon movies. To what do we owe the pleasure of watching so many of Reese’s classics? She has a new movie movie, The Good Lie, coming to theaters today, October 3rd. The Good Lie tells the story of three refugees from Sudan and the way they change Reese Witherspoon’s character, Carrie’s life. If you aren’t sold, the movie is by the same people who created The Blind Side.  This week, let’s celebrate The Good Lie, with our other Witherspoon favorites!

Okay, we know it is such a chick flick, but come on… it is impossible not to love Reese Witherspoon in this movie. Sweet Home Alabama tells the story of a girl who is forced to face her past as she wants to move on in her future. When she returns home to Alabama, she finds a lot of unfinished business waiting for her. There’s nothing like some southern eating and Reese Witherspoon’s accent in this one, so try out these appetizer ham and cheese pretzel bites. A little grease never hurt anyone right…

On a more serious note, we have to watch the movie that gave Witherspoon her All-American girl next door claim to fame: Cruel Intentions. This movie is all about deceit, games, and high living so we figured a fancy meal would go over perfectly. Enjoy your chicken cacciatore as you watch a silly bet twist lives and feelings. P.S. we can’t forget that this is where Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe began their short but epic romance, sigh.

Last but not least, one of Witherspoon’s forgotten movies: Pleasantville. I can only remember renting this VHS from my local library growing up. That is how old it is. Reese Witherspoon and none other than Tobey Maguire are two teenagers from the 90’s that end up in a 50’s world. Their influence in the perfect little town begins to change everything. Nothing screams a small American town like homemade apple pie, but we are sure you already have that recipe. Instead, try these mini apple pies. Go easy on your stomach after those ham and cheese pretzel bites.
