Dinner & A Movie: Recipes Inspired by American Hustle

American Hustle hits theaters December 20th, 2013 and it promises to be a great movie. Currently with a 95% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, expect it to be a huge box office hit. The story is an intriguing (but fictional) depiction of the FBI Abscam operation of the 1970s and 80s. This operation revealed a large amount of public corruption on the part of Congressmen, a senator, and members of the NJ Senate. The film has a rockstar cast including Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Christian Bale.  According to rotten tomatoes,  “American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting”. For this week’s dinner and a movie, I found it appropriate to highlight a couple of tasty New Jersey recipes.

Disco Fries (via Food Network)

Called disco fries in New Jersey, this dish is more commonly known as a French-Canadian dish called “poutine”. The dish is made of french fries, cheese curds (or mozzarella cheese), and gravy sauce. Meat such as bacon or beef are sometimes added.

Sloppy Joe (via The Pioneer Woman)

To supplement the delicious disco fries (yes, I consider it the main dish), why not make a sloppy joe sandwich? This cold deli sandwich is a filling triple decker. You can make it by putting together rye bread with one or two types of sliced deli meat, such as turkey, ham, pastrami, corned beef, or roast beef. After that you can add swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Russian dressing. Tasty!

We’re aware that this week’s dinner and a movie is not the healthiest thing we’ve put on here. But you know it’s alright to get some fat in your system sometimes!
