Let’s face it, finding a boyfriend or girlfriend is tricky. Keeping a boyfriend or girlfriend, is a challenge. Dating is like a game, kind of. There really isn’t a winner or loser but both partners in the relationship need to take turns making an effort. In college you might find yourself in and out of relationships, and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, dating and being in relationships are good for you. They help you to be social and mature, try new things, and even be a little bit outgoing. As we grow up, it’s important to try new things, both in and out of the dating world, to gain a sense of what you like and what you want. Dating allows you to try new things, on all fronts, and gives you the chance to reinvent yourself and learn a lot about yourself on the journey. Relationships have proven to be healthy and provide some serious health benefits as well.

Dating and being in relationships are also really good for you because studies show that people who have had strong, close relationships actually live longer. According to a study done at the University of Minnesota, people who have close relationships are 50% less likely to die prematurely. Researchers from this study also suggest that committing to a lifelong partnership with your significant other can up to three years to your life expectancy. Dating and being in a relationship also helps reduce stress levels. Having a companion makes life a little easier to get through. Sharing your problems and having someone to help you when you’re having a bad day helps decrease stress levels.

When in a relationship, it is important to maintain a good connection. Being honest, caring, and compassionate are three qualities that will help maintain a successful relationship. These qualities will also lend themselves to making you a better person. People in relationships are often well rounded, good listeners, and very sympathetic.
